There is a problem with art in the world today. Everything has art in it, but art that was bought, paid for and developed to be marketing. Finding new art that has nothing to do with advertising or marketing it can often be a difficult process, and often new art is not practical due to its price, size, availability or most often content.
There is a reason for this: Today the most popular and powerful art connoisseur and sales people in the world are major conglomerates and/or very old publishing companies. As an example Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling is a great book, a best-selling book, in fact possibly the most profitable novel series of all time, but does that make it the best book or even best series… No.
Harry Potter became popular because it was advertised, in malls, in Burger King and in schools to children around the world, also the story was chosen based on a list of literary art currently being accepted by Bloomsbury Press. This process allows the art to be completely controlled from the moment it was created.
The second part of this problem is that publishing companies and marketers believe they already know what consumers are looking for based on marketing research and current purchasing habits. And these research methods work fine for commodities, but Art is something else, it is something that people experience and have extremely individualized opinions on. It is not actually possible to determine what art people will like, but only to limit the available art to high quality art which generally has a higher acceptance by the population, therefore when there is very little mass produced art available, people choose the highest quality art, which is generally the most highly marketed.
After performing a research study at Eastern Connecticut State University, I found that people actually want advertising, but they don’t want to see Harry Potter drinking Coke-Cola, or Free Coffee coupons falling out of packaging. What I found is that people want advertising in products they have already purchased that is related to the products they have purchased. As an example if you were reading Fifty Shades of Grey and got to the part about the gray bed then on the next page there was a 5% off coupon for a very similar gray bed, people would be much more inclined to buy the gray bed. Similarly, if a painting of a can of soup is doing very well as a painting, it might be a very good and profitable idea to put a few coupons for soup on, near or around that painting.
Finally, artists are currently under-paid and under-supported. The term starving artists exists because it is not easy for artist to survive by producing art. At BNE Publishing we will support our artists by paying them for what they create and what we sell fairly. Additionally we will allow a path for any artist, represented or not, wealthy or not, to be published based on the quality of their art. To do this we will source our artists through a contest where artists will be asked to submit their art. From these submissions BNE will choose at least 10 new pieces of art to publish in our newsletter on IHeartDiscoveries.com each month. Each published artist will receive $0.05 for each newsletter sold and they will be able to sell any of their art on IHeartDiscoveries.com in convenient forms BNE will produce for them at a profit of at least 50% of the sale price or one determined by the artist. Additionally, we will not publish a list of accepted art and will simply publish the highest quality art reviewed.
